Updated: May 10

What Montessori means?

The term "Montessori" is most often associated with a method of schooling and learning that emphasizes self-directed activity, hands-on learning, and collaborative play, however can also be applied to refer to any environment , not just educational settings such as the term "Montessori home".

What is the Montessori Method?

The Montessori Method is an educational philosophy and practice developed by Italian physician and educator,

Dr. Maria Montessori, in the early 1900s. It's based on scientific observations of children from birth to adulthood.

The overall goal of the Montessori Method is to foster a child's natural inclination to learn and to create a lifetime love of learning, while also cultivating the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development.

Interior design: What to consider?

Users have to be immediately enveloped in an atmosphere of tranquility. The color palette is an ode to softness and serenity, featuring subdued hues of neutrals and pastels.

It is important to add textures, with rugs, cushions and art pieces, also include low furniture, residing directly on the ground. This isn't just a design choice; it's a call to independence and a cue for autonomy in the child's routine. Low furniture and open shelves are easily accessible, spark curiosity and encourage self-initiated play.

Fostering the development of practical skills and autonomy it is important to add furniture pieces like a table, chairs or an armchair encouraging kids to read, draw, or any other creative endeavor. The room continues to exude Montessori's principles with a child-level wardrobe and mirror, facilitating self-dressing and self-recognition.

Lastly is necessary to create a connection with nature enhanced by potted plants or a small fish tank, these thoughtful touches not only create an inviting atmosphere but also subtly instill responsibility in kids.
